Experience told in the end, when Torpoint met Ivybridge Congregational in the final of the Plymouth Badminton League’s Beckly Cup.
Held at Sherwell and in front of an appreciative audience, Torpoint whose total age would be … or should we say … contains a wealth of experience, took on the youngest side in the League. Torpoint played steady controlled badminton throughout, until the penultimate match, when amid tumultuous cheers James Bell and Becky Fisher took a set off Rod Olney and Joan Fellowes 15-4.
The total aces at the end of the match was Ivybridge 152, Torpoint 259 and there was a hush as the handicap was opened to reveal +90 to Ivybridge which meant Torpoint had done just enough to win the cup by 17 aces.
