The Championships are being held for the 5th consecutive year at the
Manchester Velodrome, Sportcity between Friday 1st and Sunday 3rd February 2008.
This is the highest grade of domestic tournament, and provides the excitement of
being able to see England's best players competing against each other for the
sought-after title of National Champion. It is also a unique opportunity to see
budding future stars competing at the highest level, and challenging the more
experienced players.
The 2007 Championships were full of excitement, as we saw a repeat of the 2006
World Championships Mixed Doubles Final. Anthony Clark and Donna Kellogg took
the title, after beating 2004 Olympic Silver Medalists Nathan Robertson and Gail
Emms in a truly energetic final.
Tickets are being sold through Ticketmaster on 0844 847 1552 or www.ticketmaster.co.uk
, and are offered at various prices. The 2007 Finals Day (Sunday) tickets sold
out in record time, and are expected to move quickly this season.
There is also a dedicated website for the Championships: www.nationalbadmintonchamps.co.uk.
The Championships are once again being held at the National Indoor Arena,
Birmingham from Tuesday 4th to Sunday 9th March 2008.
Due to the smaller draw sizes, and high standard of play, this will be the first
year BADMINTON England have allowed the Qualifying Rounds to be open to the
public (Tuesday 4th). It is a great opportunity to see world class players
competing for their chance to gain promotion into the Main Draw. For followers
of British badminton players, this is a rare opportunity to see our best players
testing themselves in the earlier rounds against International opposition.
Following on from their success in the National Championships, Anthony Clark and
Donna Kellogg earned themselves a place in the 2007 Yonex All England Mixed
Doubles final, facing one of the most formidable Chinese opponents to-date. The
English pair narrowly lost in a physically demanding and dramatic three-end
final, but vowed to return again one day. Could this be their year, or will
Nathan Robertson and Gail Emms shine through and regain the Mixed Doubles title
they won back in 2005?
Tickets have been sold out for the previous three Finals Day (Sunday), and this
year will no doubt be the same. Demand was so high at the 2007 Championships
that spectators were turned away for both Saturday and Sunday tickets! They are
available now through the NEC Box Office on 0870 010 9079 or www.necgroup.co.uk/boxoffice.
Both Championships offer a 10% discount on tickets bought prior
to and including the 31st December 2007. Additional discounts are also available
for BADMINTON England Members, previous ticket buyers, concessions, group
booking and school parties...subject to availability.
