Press Release 7th March 2008
A good evening of badminton saw Builders beat Tavistock by 20 aces to win Plymouth Badminton’s Beckly Cup. The Final played at Torpoint’s Council Chambers saw both teams with some “catching up” to do, as Builders last won the Trophy in 1988 whilst Tavistock can go back to 1977.

The match finished with Tavistock winning by just 4 aces but the handicap gave Builders +24 and the Beckly Cup by 20 aces.

University have
made a late challenge in Division Three beating both of the leading contenders
on their own courts. The students
came away from Callington with a 6-3
victory and followed this by beating Builders
5-4 at Whiteford Road. Torpoint
put up a fight against the students but went down 9-0, B.A.T.S.
were their next victims but the students took to the “nylon” shuttle and
came away 6-3 victors. In the return
match and back to “feathers” the students beat B.A.T.S.
9-0.
B.A.T.S. then suffered the same fate at Y.M.C.A.
Kitto, losing 9-0 in straight sets. Callington
regained some ground to beat Y.M.C.A. Kitto
8-1 and are still favourites for the Title.
Results in the Men’s Division B have handed University
the Title. Victoria
could have caught them but dropped 2 points at home to Devonshire
B. Devonshire
A also dropped points winning 8-4 at B.A.T.S.
Devonshire B pulled out all the stops
to draw 6-6 at home to B.A.T.S. but have
finished bottom of the table.
In the Men’s Division C Torpoint are still struggling for those elusive points. At Mayflower Wednesday, Torpoint lost 12-0.
Likewise in the Ladies Division Torpoint lost 12-0 at Devonshire, and evidently lost a lot of weight as well.
