Press Release 6th January 2008
With the new scoring system, it was thought this would give the Handicap
Committee a headache, but really instead of playing two ends to 15 it was two
ends to 21 but with no second service. Hence
there are 378 aces at stake instead of the old 270.
Greenbank, at home to B.A.T.S.
saw the Visitors receive a handicap of +288 which meant that B.A.T.S. had to
score 5 aces per end. They did this in 9 of the ends and more than 5 in four of
the ends, scoring 81 aces and with the handicap a total of 369 giving Greenbank
victory by 9 aces.
Torpoint (+126) from Division Three
took twelve ends off their Division Two opponents to win the match against Mayflower
Wednesday by 157 aces.
An all Division Two encounter saw Derriford
(+54) beat Y.M.C.A. Kitto by 70 aces.
Another All Division Two clash saw Tavistock
(+108) beat table-toppers Devonshire by
71 aces.
In a Second Round match played because of First Round Byes, the Cup holders
for the past two seasons, University
found their match at home to Builders
(+180) a tough nut to crack losing two ends to 10 and 17 and the match by 40
aces.
In the Second Round Torpoint will be
at home to Derriford, Tavistock
will entertain Callington and Greenbank
will host Ivybridge.
In the Medley League Division One, Ivybridge
keep up their winning start beating Greenbank
B 8-1. Gareth Pearse and Christine Shannon saved the Visitor’s blushes
beating Tony Buckler and Hazel Gillespie 21-19 21-17.
Greenbank B came back in a bottom
of the table clash to beat their hosts Callington
5-4.
Callington found their opponents University
in fine form losing 7-2 at Callington.
University at home to Greenbank
A could have been “Match of the Day” but after the Men’s Events which
went 2-1 to University, Greenbank took control to run out 7-2 winners.
Devonshire lead Division Two beating
Derriford and Tavistock
8-1 at the Leisure Club. Tavistock
were ‘well beaten’ at Y.M.C.A. Kitto
losing 9-0.
Derriford keep on the heels of the
leaders of this Division beating Tavistock
7-2 at Horrabridge and B.A.T.S. 8-1 at the
Health and Leisure Centre. Mixed
fortunes for B.A.T.S., after losing 8-1 at home to Tavistock,
B.A.T.S. recorded their first win of
the season beating fellow strugglers Mayflower
Wednesday 9-0 in straight sets.
In Division Three, Y.M.C.A. Kitto B
made the trip to Callington worthwhile
beating the C Team 6-3. The
‘Callys’ Ladies proved to be the thorn in Kitto’s side winning all three
of their Events.
There were many close games in the Men’s Division B between Victoria
and B.A.T.S. but Victoria had the edge in all
departments winning 12-0.
