Press Release 8th February 2008
In the Men’s Division A of the Plymouth Badminton League
Greenbank have set the target to
win this Division at 52 points. Victoria,
after a late start to the season, now have three matches to play to catch Greenbank
and Victoria are the only side that can
catch them.
Earlier Victoria had lost 5-7 at home to Greenbank
in a match that proved to be a “thriller” with five ends finishing at
“setting”. The best game
was the final event of the evening when Dan Pring and Tony Clark shared the
points with Luke Green and Paul Haley, 27-25 21-23.
Victoria then put Y.M.C.A.
Kitto to the sword winning 12-0 at Whiteford Road.
Y.M.C.A. Kitto entertained University
to a 6-6 draw where all the events were won or lost 2-0.
It’s anyone’s title in the Men’s Division B between Devonshire A, Victoria and University with the edge with University. They beat Devonshire A 7-5 at the Leisure Centre.
It will take a major upset to stop Y.M.C.A. Kitto B from taking the Men’s Division C Title. They convincingly beat Torpoint 12-0 to remain unbeaten with two matches to play, and Kitto’s C Team could finish as Runners-up, they beat Mayflower Wednesday 10-2 at the Kitto Centre.
The Men are not having it all their own way. The Ladies too are having some
“Ding-dong” battles in their Division. Greenbank
fought a 6-6 draw at Y.M.C.A. Kitto and
it is between these two sides who could win the title.
Y.M.C.A. Kitto went on to beat the University
12-0 whilst University in turn won 9-3
at Torpoint.
Lesley Thrift was involved in all three of Torpoint’s
first points of the season. Kate
Ball and Lenny Davis took an end off Waine Parker and Emma Scott 21-16 in the
first event of the evening, but here the celebrations ended as Kitto
ran out 11-1 winners at Devonshire.
In the Medley League Division One - who is going to stop Greenbank? Even without their number one man, Matt Hemsley, Greenbank went to Callington and won 6-3.
Y.M.C.A. Kitto are making their presence felt in Division Two beating B.A.T.S. and Derriford both 9-0 at the Kitto Centre. Devonshire, who are the only other side in contention in this division won 6-3 at Mayflower Wednesday.
Builders, winning 8-1 at B.A.T.S.
and in beating Torpoint 9-0 at Whiteford
Road currently lead Division Three, but having played more games.
Coming up on the rails are Callington
B who remain unbeaten in six outings, their latest scalp being an 8-1
victory at B.A.T.S.
You can’t forget Y.M.C.A. Kitto in
this Division either, their B Team beat Torpoint
9-0 and then fought a close encounter to pip University
5-4 with five of the nine events needing a third end.
At the lower end of this Division Torpoint lost 7-2 at University, yet beat B.A.T.S. 9-0.
