Press Release 30th March 2007
A superb evening of badminton was marred by an injury to Callington’s Judith Farris, who had to concede two matches, thus making the handicap of +54 in Callington’s favour pointless. This allowed University to retain the Beckly Cup, winning the match by 74 aces. Unfortunately Callington had no reserve to step in and none could be raised. Being an all Division One final both sides provided an excellent standard of play and played to its full extent who knows what the outcome would have been.
With the Championship decided in Greenbank
A’s favour, results in Division One now are for minor places. With Dan
Corby being available, Ivybridge beat University
5-4 at the Leisure Centre. Daniel won the first Men’s Event in three games
with Adrian Freeman and the first Mixed Event, also in three games with Liz
Marker.
The Ivybridge Ladies won all three of their events. University were rather
dominant on their own court beating Greenbank B 8-1. Kirsty Brewer and Christine
Shannon saved the ‘whitewash’ beating Vicky Wrycraft and Amy Binmore 15-1
15-7.
Mixed fortunes for B.A.T.S. in Division Two, they lost 6-3 at Salisbury Armada with Tamsin Woodroffe remaining undefeated for the Visitors. They then entertained Callington and won 5-4. The match was decided in the third end of the second Mixed Event with Callington leading 8-2 but B.A.T.S. Jonathan Freeman and Rebecca Ward suddenly got their act together and won 15-8.
Y.M.C.A. Kitto beat Callington 7-2 to finish as Runners Up in this Division to Devonshire A.
Devonshire B have remained unbeaten to win the Division Three Title. They finished on a high winning 8-1 at Builders and 9-0 at home to Torpoint. Mayflower Wednesday beat University B 6-3 to finish as Runners Up in this Division.
In the Men’s Division A, University had wrapped up the Title prior to their visit to Greenbank. Their host paid them their highest respect fielding their top team and ended up beating them 8-4. Greenbank then finished their season winning by the same score at Salisbury Armada.
Y.M.C.A. Kitto A have sewn up the Division B Title by virtue of a 10-2 win over their nearest rivals Victoria B and a 12-0 win at Mayflower Wednesday.
In the Men’s Division C, Tavistock cannot find that elusive win. A 12-0 defeat at Builders was followed by a 7-5 defeat at home to Y.M.C.A. Kitto C.
In the Ladies Division, Di Soper and Luise Ryan were the only pair to take an end at Greenbank where Salisbury Armada lost the match 11-1.
