Runaway leaders of Division Two, Devonshire A were brought back to earth at the Kitto Centre losing 6-3 to their hosts Y.M.C.A. Kitto A. Five events needed a third end but the hosts took an early initiative winning all three Men’s Events. The Visitors saved their blushes winning the first Ladies and two Mixed Events.
In a closely competitive match at Plymstock, Salisbury/Armada beat Tavistock 6-3.
Y.M.C.A. Kitto returned to Tavistock for an unfinished match standing at 3-3. The three Mixed Events were played falling 2-1 to the Visitors and an overall 5-4 victory.
In Division Three Devonshire B maintained their unbeaten run winning 6-3 at the Kitto Centre. An injury to Lynda Harris meant Sara Raine already playing up for the A team on an adjacent court had to drop back to play the third mixed and won it 12-15 15-1 15-7.
Mayflower Wednesday powered through their match at home to Torpoint winning 8-1. Torpoint’s sole point came with the final event of the evening where the experience of Joan Fellow splaying with Laurie Thrift comfortably beat Mark Hawker and Thecla Keizer 15-10 15-3.
In the Men’s Division A, University turned on an "awesome display of badminton" to beat Devonshire 12-0 and keep their opponents to just 13 aces.
Close on the heels of University, Victoria enjoyed some close games to beat Greenbank 8-4. Tom Pepper remained undefeated for Victoria. The match between University and Victoria in early March could decide who wins the Title.
Victoria’s B Team kept up the pressure in Men’s Division B in beating Callington 10-2 at Whiteford Road. Here again Victoria’s match at Kitto will be a deciding factor.
Mayflower Wednesday have yet to find success in this Division, losing 9-3 at home to Devonshire B.
Another University side going strong saw their B side beat Builders D.M.L. 12-0 in the Men’s Division C.
Devonshire’s Ladies are competing with their Menfolk in leading the Ladies Division. Devonshire beat Greenbank 8-4 in a good competitive match and then ran out 12.0 winners at University.
A surprising result saw Y.M.C.A. Kitto held to a 6-6 draw at home to Salisbury/Armada.
In the Beckly Cup second round University won every event to beat Builders (+162) by 44 aces.
Torpoint (+72) took full advantage of their home courts to beat B.A.T.S. by 63 aces.
Mayflower Wednesday (+108) could not hold a rampant Salisbury/Armada who won by 49 aces.
At Derriford (+126) Callington won all their games to overcome their hosts by 60 aces.
The semi-final draw will see Callington play Salisbury Armada and University host Torpoint
