Press Release 18th March 2007

Devonshire Ladies Celebrate

At last, after seven matches with no reward Devonshire B Ladies can toast their first win this season beating University 7-5 at the Leisure Centre. The first three events were shared but then Lenny Davis with her partners found that bit extra to win her next two events which set up the victory. There will be no trophys for this side but its always great to have a win under your belt.

Alas success was short lived as Devonshire lost their next match at Greenbank 12-0.

Greenbank kept up their momentum in this division in beating University 12-0 on their own courts.

In Division One of the Plymouth Badminton League, Callington made the trip to Whiteford Road worthwhile beating Greenbank B 6-3. Greenbank made amends in their next match beating Ivybridge 5-4. The result was decided with the final event of the evening when Daniel Pring and Christine Shannon beat Clive Gaskin and Jeanette Green 15-12 16-17 15-5.

Division Two is once again proving to be a very close Division except for Devonshire A who in beating Salisbury Armada 9-0 have virtually sewn up the title with still two matches to play. Y.M.C.A. Kitto remain in the shadow of the leaders beating Derriford 7-2 whilst Callington B had mixed fortunes in beating Salisbury Armada 6-3 then losing a "derby" match at Tavistock 5-4.

Getting towards the end of season and Y.M.C.A. Kitto B are finishing on a strong note in Division Three. Entertaining Builders, only Josie Debnam and Mark Statton could find any success in the first mixed. The Y.M.C.A. ran out 8-1 winners.

Slightly more opposition at Torpoint saw the Y.M.C.A. come away 6-3 winners. At home to Mayflower Wednesday the Y.M.C.A. had to wait until the final event of the evening for their 5-4 win when Andrew Collingwood and Elizabeth Nicholson beat Tom Hawker and Julia Symonds 15-1 15-4.

The Y.M.C.A. finally found their match at Devonshire losing 8-1 to the Division Champions. James Travis and Vicky Shelmerdine gained their sole point in the first mixed event beating Steve Addy and Lynda Harris 15-11 15-5.

University A have "steam-rollered" their way to the Men’s Division A Title with some awe-inspiring badminton. At the Mayflower Centre they took their nearest rivals Victoria apart winning 12-0. Salisbury Armada suffered the same result on their own court.

University’s B Team have also wrapped up the Men’s Division C Title with an 11-1 victory at home to nearest rivals Y.M.C.A. Kitto B.
