Triple Joy for David

In the Plymouth and District Badminton League’s End of Season Tournaments, David Williams from the Bere Alston club B.A.T.S. won all three of his events in the ‘Restricted’ section. David won his first title with the Men’s Singles beating University’s Ben Goodman 15-6 15-12. David went on to partner Alan Berry in the Men’s Doubles Lower and in the final beat Y.M.C.A. Kitto’s Rob Loader and Keith Batham 15-3 15-10. David then teamed up with Abi Maunder in the Mixed Doubles Lower and in the final beat fellow club mates Alan Berry and Rebecca Ward 15-3 15-8 to cap a successful days badminton.

In the Ladies Singles, Mayflower Wednesday’s Jane Bryan came back to snatch the title from Kitto’s Emma Scott 11-7 11-7 after finishing as runner-up to Emma in the group stage.

In the Ladies Doubles Lower, Emma paired up with fellow club mate Philippa Williams to beat B.A.T.S. Abi Maunder and Callington’s Heather Cooper 15-8 15-3.

Greenbank’s Daniel Pring and Sean Rider beat Kitto’s Martin Potter and Ryan Lambourne 15-6 15-11 in the Men’s Doubles Upper and Builder’s Josie Debnam and Joanne Jackson beat Kitto’s Waine Parker and Melanie Francis 15-9 15-10 in the Ladies Doubles Upper. In the Mixed Doubles Upper University’s Richard Rastall and Vicky Wrycraft beat Greenbank’s Sean Rider and Christine Shannon 15-7 10-15 15-9 to complete a good day’s badminton.

Another good day at the Kitto Centre saw an increased entry for Plymouth’s ‘Open’ Tournament. Greenbank’s Paul Ackrell pulled out all the stops to beat fellow club mate David Harrington 6-15 15-9 15-3 and take the Men’s Singles Title.

B.A.T.S. Frances Ward laid claim to the Ladies Singles beating Greenbank’s Lynne Hunt 7-11 11-9 11-2. Lynne took her revenge in the Ladies Doubles with Sharon Bates to retain her Doubles crown beating Frances and Rebecca Ward 15-7 15-8.

Greenbank’s Andy Ward and Gareth Pearse are the new Men’s Doubles Champions. In the final they beat Callington’s Julian Cooper and B.A.T.S. James Cooper 15-12 15-9.

The Mixed Doubles ran out of time and all events were played to one end. In the final B.A.T.S. James Cooper and Frances Ward beat Greenbank’s Andy Ward and Sharon Bates 15-7.

The end of season Presentation Evening will be held at the Derriford Hospital Leisure Centre on Saturday 22nd April.
