Students Pass Out Tops

University ‘A’ have completed their season and have won the Men’s Division ‘B’ Title in the Plymouth Badminton League.

Victoria with a 6-6 draw at Salisbury / Armada and a 12-0 win at Devonshire ‘B’ have completed their season and will have to settle as Runners Up in the Men’s Division ‘A’. Devonshire ‘A’ have one match to play and need just one point for the Men’s Championship.

In the Men’s Division ‘C’ Mayflower Wednesday are on course to take the title. The Wednesday beat Builders 11-1 but lost 8-4 at Devonshire ‘D’ and in their final match need just five points for promotion. Other results saw Builders lose 12-0 at Devonshire ‘D’ but bounce back to beat Y.M.C.A. Kitto 12-0 at Whiteford Road.

In the Ladies Division, Devonshire ‘D’ completed a 12-0 whitewash at Salisbury / Armada and must now inflict the same to visitors Y.M.C.A. Kitto to have a say to the title.

Greenbank ‘A’ completed the double against Tavistock within a week, winning both matches 9-0. Greenbank’s ‘B’ team also went to Tavistock and won 9-0.

In Division Two, Greenbank’s ‘C’ team are on course to take the Division Two title helped by a 7-2 win at Derriford. Di Soper was involved in both of Derriford’s wins in the first Ladies and the third Mixed Events. In the same Division, Salisbury / Armada beat Devonshire 6-3 at Plymstock School and may have done just enough to secure their future in this Division.

University are all but ‘home & dry’ with the Division Three title. They beat their nearest rivals Y.M.C.A. Kitto ‘A’ 8-1 at the Mayflower Centre and followed this with a 9-0 win against a depleted Devonshire ‘D’. Tavistock’s ‘B’ team are, as their seniors in Division One, finding points hard to come by. They lost 7-2 at home to Callington and were vanquished 9-0 in straight sets at Y.M.C.A. Kitto ‘A’.

Mayflower Wednesday are in the best position for the Division Four title. They won 5-4 at University ‘B’ thanks to their Ladies and Mixed Events, then they beat Devonshire ‘E’ 8-1 at Devonport High School for Boys but their best result was in beating B.A.T.S, their nearest rivals, 6-3 also at DHSB. Other results in this Division saw Torpoint win 6-3 at Devonshire ‘E’ and B.A.T.S. beating University ‘B’ by the same score.

The Beckly Cup semi-finals saw a rampant University beat Mayflower Wednesday with a +126 handicap by 74 aces and B.A.T.S. with a +45 handicap went to Y.M.C.A. Kitto and won by 14 aces.

We have now lost Sherwell as our Beckly Cup Final venue and will now play the final at Torpoint on March 31st starting at 7pm.
