Newly promoted to Division One of the Plymouth Badminton League, Callington find themselves undefeated and currently top of the Division. In their local derby match at home to Tavistock, Callington swept aside the visitors 9-0.
Greenbank’s C team remain in control of Division Two by way of a 9-0 win at home to Salisbury / Armada but have yet to play any away matches. The rest of this Division seems to be very evenly balanced with Builders beating Devonshire 5-4 and Derriford winning at Salisbury / Armada by the same score.
In Division Three, Devonshire D have just two matches left to complete their season but have been inconsistent with team members. A full squad beat Y.M.C.A. Kitto A 7-2 but a side with three reserves lost 6-3 at Y.M.C.A. Kitto B. University are the side to watch in this Division, they went to Y.M.C.A. Kitto A and won 6-3, so are currently undefeated after five matches.
In the inter-club match at Kitto, the A side beat their B side 6-3. Lizzie Nicholson, the junior of the B team made a dent in the A side by winning two of her three events.
B.A.T.S. lead the way in Division Four by way of a 5-4 win at University and a 9-0 gift when Devonshire E were unable to raise a team.
Mayflower Wednesday opened their account in this Division with an 8-1 win at home to Torpoint. The result flattered the Wednesday a little as four of the events needed a third end and one game finished at ‘setting’. Torpoint’s sole success came in the third Ladies event when Julie Weeks and Joan Fellowes beat Julia Symonds and Helen Wilson 15-10 2-15 15-8.
In the Men’s Division A, Devonshire A have established a hefty lead after beating title-holders Victoria 9-3 at the Health and Racquet Club. Wally Bickford came in for the injured Mike McFarlane but found the heat and the youngsters overpowering. Victoria recovered a little ground in beating Salisbury / Armada 10-2.
In Division B, University A beat their B side 11-1. Ben Goodman and Paul Bitton played well to take an end 15-7 off their senior opponents Kabeer Ramrakha and Richard Rastall.
Devonshire D took no prisoners beating Y.M.C.A. Kitto C 12-0 in Division C. The visitors managed to scramble just 50 aces in this match.
Y.M.C.A. Kitto’s Ladies did themselves proud in their first match in the Ladies Division, beating Devonshire D 10-2. The games were hard fought and very competitive.
