At the halfway stage of the season, Devonshire are way out in front of Division ‘A’ of the Men’s Division of the Plymouth Badminton League. With twelve points available in each match, their lead could be short lived but they have the points.
Devonshire ‘A’ beat their ‘B’ team 11-1 with Ken Pan and Pete Clifton managing to salvage their only point, beating Gary West and Adrian Bunsell 15-9 in the second end.
At Salisbury/Armada, Devonshire ‘A’ won 10-2 dropping a point in each of the first two events of the evening. Salisbury / Armada took their revenge at Devonshire ‘B’ winning the match 12-0.
Y.M.C.A. Kitto ‘A’ have their noses in front of Men’s Division ‘B’ in what could be a tight division. Kitto lost their home match against University ‘A’ 9-3 with Rob Loader being involved with all three points. Against their ‘B’ Team, Kitto ‘A’ won 10-2. University ‘B’ had a tight encounter at Kitto ‘B’ but came away 7-5 winners. Another tight encounter against their ‘A’ side saw the University’s fight out a 6-6 draw.
In the Men’s Division ‘C’, Y.M.C.A. Kitto ‘C’ beat Devonshire ‘D’ 7-5 to trail leaders Mayflower Wednesday by five points.
In the Medley Divisions, Greenbank ‘B’ lead Division One by virtue of beating Ivybridge and Tavistock both 9-0. Callington maintained their 100% start in the top flight also beating Ivybridge 9-0.
Mixed fortunes for Builders in Division Two. They beat Salisbury/Armada 5-4 at Whiteford Road but lost 5-4 away at Derriford. This match was decided with the final event of the evening when Neil Griffiths and Marilyn Allen beat Mark Statton and Mary Innes 15-3 15-1.
University ‘A’ are so far unbeaten in Division Three. At Y.M.C.A. Kitto ‘B’ the students won 6-3, the home side’s Ladies kept their end up winning all three events. In the return match at the Mayflower Centre, the students won 8-1. Lyn Harris and Phillipa Williams saved the whitewash for the visitors, beating Vicky Wrycraft and Amy Binmore 6-15 15-3 15-8.
The match that could decide the Division Winners saw University win 6-3 at Devonshire ‘D’. The return match at the Mayflower Centre is in February.
In the ‘Derby’ match at Callington, the home side beat Tavistock 5-4. The following week Callington found Devonshire ‘D’ a different kettle of fish losing 7-2.
Mixed fortunes for University ‘B’ in Division Four they beat Devonshire ‘E’ 6-3 but lost to Torpoint 7-2, both matches being played at the Mayflower Centre.
