The holders of the Beckly Cup, Torpoint, entertained Greenbank in the First Round of this season’s competition. The home side from Division Four put up enough resistance in four events to reach double figures and with a handicap of +192 beat their Division One opponents by 6 aces.
B.A.T.S. also from Division Four were paired against Ivybridge from Division One and it proved to be a baptism of fire for the B.A.T.S. Ladies who were all aged from 12 to 14. David Williams and Abi Maunder were the only recognised pair for the home side but played extremely well to take four ends off their senior opponents and with a handicap of +162 won the match by just 1 ace.
University’s season is going well in Division Three and they were drawn away to Callington from Division One. Both sides fielded makeshift sides but University took four ends off their senior opponents and with a handicap of +126 won the match by 16 aces.
Devonshire ‘D’ fielded their second string against visitors Y.M.C.A. Kitto and paid the price losing the match by 126 aces. Likewise Tavistock brought in three players from their ‘B’ team at Mayflower Wednesday. The home side grabbed the advantage, took eight ends off their seniors and with a handicap of +180 won the match by 173 aces.
In the Medley League Division One, Greenbank ‘A’ put the skids on Callington’s fine start beating them 8-1 on their own court. Callington played well to take four events to a third end and their sole success came in the first mixed event where Julian Cooper and Helen Beer beat Ross Coomber and Lynne Hunt 8-15 15-3 15-8.
Greenbank ‘A' followed this by beating their ‘B’ team 8-1 in a full blooded encounter.
In Division Two, Builders D.M.L. suffered a double whammy losing 5-4 at Salisbury Armada and by the same score at home to Derriford.
Y.M.C.A. Kitto ‘A’ beat their ‘B’ team 7-2 in Division Three. Emma Scott was involved in both of the ’B’ team wins.
Tavistock ‘B’ scraped a 5-4 win at home to Devonshire ‘D’. Tavvy won all three Men’s Events only to be levelled by the Devonshire Ladies. The first and second Mixed Events went either way and the win came when Mark Bullock and Gill Northey beat Sergei Dudnikov and Ruth Lyle 15-5 15-4.
In Division Four B.A.T.S. unbeaten run continues, beating both Torpoint and Mayflower Wednesday 5-4 at Bere Alston.
Devonshire ‘B’ will be glad to see the end of the season in the Men’s Division ‘A’. They have just been beaten 12-0 at both Victoria and Salisbury Armada.
Y.M.C.A. Kitto have done well at home in the Ladies Division winning 10-2 and 12-0. They now have their away matches to play.
