Greenbank and Devonshire share the spoils

The Plymouth Badminton League’s end of season Tournaments saw a general decline in entries due to a lot of our players taking part in County League Finals and National Tournaments around the country. Never-the-less the ‘Open’ Tournament saw a good days badminton at the Kitto Centre.

Steve Holcombe, from the Devonshire club retained his Men’s Single’s Title beating Greenbank’s Paul Ackrell 15-13 15-0. Paul had to retire early in the second set.

A new name on the Ladies Singles Cup saw Devonshire’s Hannah Trotman beat B.A.T.S. Frances Ward 11-4 11-6.

Greenbank’s Lynne Hunt and Sharon Bates (so many times the bridesmaids) won the Ladies Doubles beating Kitto’s Waine Parker and Melanie Francis 15-3 15-3. A good entry in the Men’s Doubles saw Devonshire’s Adrian White and Lloyd Bright retain their title beating Greenbank’s David Harrington and Devonshire’s Kerry Tamblyn 15-10 15-7.

The mixed doubles proved to be a good competitive event ending up with Greenbank’s Lynne Hunt and Nick Patey beating Devonshire’s Hannah Trotman and Steve Holcombe 17-16 15-1.

The ‘Restricted’ Tournament, which bars nominated Division One and Senior County Players saw a good entry from University’s players and consequently took both singles titles when Luke Green beat B.A.T.S. David Williams 15-11 10-15 15-9 and Ana Silva beat Devonshire ‘D’s Nathalie Puillandre 11-6 and B.A.T.S. Stephanie Ferrao 11-10.

The Ladies Doubles Upper saw B.A.T.S. Rebecca Ward and Stephanie beat Kitto’s Waine Parker and Melanie Francis 15-12 15-4. Whilst in the Ladies Lower Nathalie Puillandre and Anne Martin from Devonshire ‘D’ beat Salisbury/Armada’s Margaret Adams and Pam Craig 15-5 15-8.

A success for Salisbury/Armada in the Men’s Doubles Upper saw Gary Johnson and John Steuart beat University’s Luke Green and Brian Edelman 15-8 2-15 15-9.

Peter Silverwood and James Kuo from the Devonshire ‘D’ club retained their title from the Lower Section beating University’s Jez Bennet and Jimmy Harris 15-3 15-6.

The Mixed Doubles Upper saw Greenbank’s David Harrington and Kitto’s Waine Parker beat University’s Luke Green and Vicky Wycraft 10-15 15-2 15-0, Luke had to retire due to cramp.

In the Mixed Doubles Lower B.A.T.S. David Williams and Stephanie Ferrao finally overcame Peter Silverwood and Nathalie Puillandre 15-7 17-14.

A quiet afternoon’s stroll in the Veterans Tournament at Whiteford Road saw Kitto’s Waine Parker and Keith Batham beat Salisbury/Armada’s Margaret Adams and Roger Stevens 15-13 15-10.
