Defeat but some useful experience - The B Team

BAT’s Badminton Club ‘B’ played their first match in Division 4 of the Plymouth and District Badminton League against YMCA Kitto and it is was certainly a baptism of fire for the newly promoted team when they lost 9-0.

With YMCA Kitto coming second in Div 4 last season, this was always going to be a tough match made all the harder by 3 of last seasons players moving up to the ‘A’ team and injury and prior commitments further reducing the players available for this match.

However positive points can be found. Glynis Hingston played with both guile and consistency, and must be encouraged by her performance, while Amy Maddaford found some nice touches at the net and was not overawed by the experience.

For the men, a consistent 40 points in their 3 matches was well up to expectations. Particularly encouraging was the way in which Jon Freeman and Gavin Leithal adapted and improved their play, and from being in danger of being overrun by hard hitting opponents, made an excellent game of it - a truly gritty performance.

The outside hope of a game in the mixed proved to be too optimistic against the strong opposition, but a never say die attitude by all players meant that YMCA Kitto had to work hard for their deserved victories.
