Mayflower Prevail in Basement Battle

The away side Mayflower Wednesday "B" carved out a narrow 5-4 victory over their University "B" basement rivals.

The match played at the Mayflower Centre, the spiritual home of Wednesday, was decided in the mixed events. University took all the men's events, while the Mayflower ladies proved too strong for their University counterparts, leaving the score evenly balanced at three all.

Carl Pavitt and Karen Searl were victorious over Nick Thorne and Linzi Hodgson 15-8 12-15 15-13. Husband and wife Lesley and Kevin Northcote clinched the match with a 15-3 15-8 score over Jez Bennett and Liz Pickles. Despite scoring four more aces than their opponents Andy Crocker and Julia Leaves, in arguably the event of the evening, couldn't complete the set. They narrowly missed out 11-15 15-6 16-17 to the considerably younger pairing of Franko Woo and Kirsty Richardson!

Irrespective of the score in this final match of the season, the University finish in the relegation position with Mayflower Wednesday, depending on other results, probably one place above.
