This tooth and nail battle at the foot of Division 4, with vital points at stake, was played out with a high degree of sportsmanship. It was only fitting that it should end with the closest of scores, a 5-4 win for the home side.
Neil Pandya, making his debut for Wednesday,
had a baptism of fire with two of his events requiring a third end. In the
second men's event, Neil and Carl Pavitt narrowly overcame the University's
Nick Thorne and Jez Bennett by four aces, 15-13, 8-15, 15-6.
However, the boot was on the other foot in his mixed event. This time Neil and
Julia Leaves lost out by four aces to Jez Bennett and Liz Pickles 15-7 5-15
13-15.
Wednesday's Lesley Northcote remained the only undefeated player.
