Tracey Gould and Marguerite Butt have won the Ladies Doubles Championship for the past twenty years. That reign came to an end when due to injury Marguerite failed to enter this year’s End of Season Open Tournament run by the Plymouth Badminton League. However the run continues for Tracey who entered the event with Devonshire’s Lynda Haley and beat fellow Greenbank Club members Lynne Hunt and Sharon James 15-11 15-6. Tracey will also be awarded the Singles crown, as being the only entrant. Tracey completed the triple in the Mixed Doubles with her Greenbank partner Chris Hunt beating Lloyd Bright and Lynda Haley 15-12 17-15.
The Men’s Singles will see a new name on the trophy when Steve Holcombe from Ivybridge fought a thrilling encounter to beat Mayflower Wednesday’s Ian Smith 1-15 15-9 15-13.
The ‘Restricted’ Tournament saw a record entry of 67 players from 13 clubs enter the 8 disciplines. The Men’s Singles saw James Cooper from B.A.T.S. beat fellow clubmate David Harrington 15-8, whilst in the Ladies Singles Jo Turns from South Hams retained her crown beating Frances Ward from B.A.T.S. 11-7.
James Cooper then teamed up with brother Julian from Callington to win the Men’s Doubles 2/3 beating South Hams James Hurrell and Greenbank’s Martin Duncan 15-1.
Jo Turns teamed up with clubmate Amanda Durrant to win the Ladies Doubles 2/3 beating Debbie Keslake and Liz Marker from Ivybridge 15-6. To complete her treble, Jo teamed up with brother James Hurrell to win the Mixed Doubles 2/3 beating James Cooper and Frances Ward 17-15.
In the Men’s Doubles for Divisions 4/5, University’s Nick Thorn and Brian Edleman finally overcame Y.M.C.A. Kitto’s James Travis and Ryan Lambourne 17-16.
The Ladies Doubles for Divisions 4/5 saw Y.M.C.A. Kitto’s Lyndsey Kendrick and Vikki Shelmerdine beat Holly Pitts and Rebecca Ward from B.A.T.S. 15-8.
The Mixed Doubles for the lower Divisions saw Y.M.C.A. Kitto’s Waine Parker and Ryan Lambourne beat fellow clubmates Lyndsey Kendrick and James Travis 15-8.
The League President Brian Dyer presented the trophies to the winners.
